White Paper - Marking and Reading on Glass Syringes
An important performance study was conducted with a major customer on our Laser Coding System; you can download the results in a form of a white paper.
The purpose of this study was to provide documented evidence to demonstrate that the Frewitt Coding System is a safe effective method of coding syringes and to provide evidence that the system generates a sustainable readable code with no negative impact on the syringe glass, with a statistically significant number of syringes.
On a first step, 9'000 syringes of Product #1 and 81'000 syringes of Product #2 were coded with the Frewitt Coding System. On a second step, the syringes were decoded on a automatic reader, to simulate the real operation in filling lines at the customer site. The syringes were then shipped to the customer for analysis, and shipped again to Frewitt. On a third test, the syringes were decoded again, to simulate typical subsequent decoding in packaging lines at the customer site and extrapolate the expected yield in real production environment.

In terms of quantitative performance:
This study was performed to generate statistical data on the performance of the Frewitt Laser Coder in coding filled syringes. 9'000 syringes of Product #1 (filled with placebo) and 81'000 syringes of Product #2 (filled with water) were subjected to coding at a speed of 400/min and to two consecutive decoding at a speed of 60/min. The coding yield was 99.4% for Product #1 and 99.7% for Product #2. The first decoding yield was 99.8% for Product #1 and 99.9% for Product #2. The second decoding yield was 99.93% for Product #1 and 99.98% for Product #2.
In terms of operation:
It was positively noted that the coding system was ready instantly, no warm-up or adjustment phase was needed, as this is the case with other lower or medium quality grade laser systems. Moreover, the quality of the code and the decoding yield was excellent. The syringe handling system operated as per the actual standard of the industry, which is not a surprise, because it is based on proven Seidenader technology.
In terms of industrialization:
This study confirmed that the coding unit is now ready for production. As it is, the unit can achieve the high quality standard required by the customer. It also confirmed that the automatic inspection results are excellent.
